Project 1
In Project 1, we should make an animated poster based on an existing infographic. The aim of this project is to analyze the "delivery mechanism" that affects the outcomes of your infographic. So we have to find an infographic on the internet and remake it, ensuring that the remake version is better than the original version without removing the 'important' information.
To begin with, I started to google infographics and use the keyword 'messy infographic' to filter my search better. I showed Mr. Shamsul the infographic and he approved the infographic below:

Fig. 1.1 Fatigue Awareness |
From the infographic, I noticed that there are a lot of things that can be improved:
- The illustration style could be more interesting if it had the same style.
- The information can be simplified and precise so it is not too much text.
- The layout needs to be worked on because the current layout makes the infographic look cramped.
Based on that analysis, I started to make some sketches to re-create the infographic.

Attempt 1
I decided to go with the left sketch, which is placing the object that I am gonna use in the middle. On my first attempt, I used a picture and edited it in Photoshop. I googled up pictures of construction workers and brought them to Photoshop to adjust the pictures.

Fig. 2.2 Adjust pictures |
In Figure 2.1 my point is to assemble 3 different pictures. I have 3 pictures of construction workers that I got from Freepik and a picture of a crane.
- I removed all of the background using Photoshop
- Then I applied hue, and saturation, and adjusted the color using the curve to get and white look.
- For the grainy effect, I applied a filter and clipped to all of the layers.
- The final step in Photoshop is to export the picture in PNG format and then bring it to Illustrator.

Fig. 2.5 Final infographic attempt 1 |
Figure 2.5 is my final infographic. I tried to combine the typographic systems that I learned in semester two, which are axial and radial to the text and illustration in the infographic, I also differentiated the color of the title to highlight the point of the information. It can be seen on the left infographic, that I use yellow for colored words 'fatigue', the purpose is to tell the audience that fatigue is the main issue that this infographic talks about. When Mr. Shamsul saw these layouts he seemed interested, however, the difference between these infographics is not that noticeable, They only have different title alignments and color usage in the title as well. Mr. Shamsul suggested starting a new layout with different colors.
Attempt 2
In attempt 1, my infographic is more photo-oriented. So I wanted to try using illustration for my second attempt. For the layout itself, I use the sketch below as a guide:

Fig. 3.1 Sketch for the 2nd attempt |
The sketch is totally different from my first infographic design. In this attempt, I wanted to play a different layout by placing the title in the middle of the infographic. Below is the process I went through to digitize my infographic:

Fig. 3.2 Attempt 2 Infographic process |
- I reuse the image from the 1st attempt to create the illustration by tracing the picture.
- Next, I put all of the information, in picture number 2, I am still trying to figure out which color is the best for the background. I also added helmets with different colors, which indicate the job desk of the construction worker.
- In picture 3, I realized that using the helmet was not the best choice, because the number of the figure was more than the stickman figure, as I decided to use red as the background color, I also thought to use a warning sign plate design to highlight the part 'Signs of Fatigue' as this element is related to the constructing place.
- In the fourth picture, I finalize all of the elements after getting feedback from Mr. Shamsul. It can be noticed that in the previous picture, the title at the top indicates 'Who Is at Risk...' and 'How To Manage...' are not aligned with each other. In the fourth picture, I aligned the title to each other to make it look even. I also put the logo at the top left.
To summarize all of my progress, below is the changes that applied to my infographic design from attempt 1 to attempt 2

Animating The Infographic
To animate the infographic, I used After Effects, before moving the file into After Effect, I separated each element into different layers in Illustrator, and I renamed all of the layers because in After Effect I should animate each layer differently to get the result that I want.

Fig. 4.2 Animating infographic using puppet tool |
The animation that I used to create the infographic is pretty much simple, The main features that I used to animate are the rotation, opacity, position, and the puppet tool. I also minimized the movement that I applied to the stickman figures because I wanted the crane movement to be the main focus of the infographic.
Final Result
Week 4
Specific feedback: The layout still can be improved by trying different arrangements, while the usage of a circle usually determines 'evolution', instead of using a circle try different shapes and colors in the infographic.
Week 5
Specific feedback: The latest infographic design is better than the previous design. The title needs to be aligned to each other, while the animation is okay.
Reflections
Experience: In this project, I can reflect more on the exercises that I did previously and how I used the typographic system better because making an infographic is harder than just making a poster without text-based information because in making an infographic we have to think about how to make this infographic interesting not only to be seen but to be read and understood by the audience. I also relate with what Mr. Fauzi said in the class, do not focus on your references and expect that your design will look like the reference that you desire, especially in this semester which has a lot of things to do in a short time. Sometimes I have a high expectation for my work and end up procrastinating doing it, but now I think it is useless to do that, it is better that I start my work and later during the process I will find a way/solution to make the design that I desire (It often happen to me).
Observations: I noticed that some infographics have unnecessary ideas because the infographic itself has limited space, and putting a lot of information will make the audience ignore the poster because it will look boring. That is why, elements like illustrations or pictures are important in infographics, because they aim to translate text-based information to something visual that people could understand at a glance, of course with a little bit from a description. Not because it is information, it has to be text-heavy.
Findings: Making an appealing design is a good point, but the more important thing in making an infographic is how to convey the information to the audience so they can understand the message in it. Showing our design to people is one of the most important things because with that we can get different points of view and feedback from individuals, which could enhance our understanding and skills in design.
